WordPress SEO tips for bloggers
After you choose reliable hosting provider – which is important for SEO regarding performance and security, these are the steps to take to ensure your better visibility.
Custom Permalinks
Don’t mess up your blog URLs. This means you don’t want them to show up like this:
www.domainname.com/index.php?&27=red&86=aMrtl38263
Leaving them this messy will only make you invisible for search engines. Instead, what you need to do is this:
www.domainname/category/url-title-keywords
Go to the Permalink section of the dashboard, within Settings, and you will see several options.
You don’t want to use plain or numeric, for the very same reason stated before. Choose any of the rest or, as I did, make a custom one from the tags provided below:
By doing this, you are making Google easier to understand what’s on your blog and, therefore, rank you for the specific keyword and phrase.
SEO plugins
When in need, take all the help you can get from plugins. The very two for this matter are SEO Yoast and Broken link checker, both we introduced in the must have blogger plugins article. Both free, easy to use and highly valuable for making your blog SEO approved. Broken link checker will check and help you fix all broken link from your blog. SEO Yoast, on the other hand, will help you polish your posts and align them with the newest and most relevant SEO rules. Give it a go, we recommend them.
Google Analytics
And, not to forget, you need Google Analytics on your blog – how else will you track and analyze your online presence? We’ve explained this in our recent article as well, so don’t think it’s complicated because it’s not – just use the MonsterInsights plugin and you’re all set!
Meta description
On the list of important WordPress SEO tips for bloggers is this one that says you need to have a proper meta description. You know, the text snippet below each link that comes up in search results.
This is like a hook for people who search. Having it done right, it will convert them to your visitors, and that is what we all want, right? Do read our detailed guide on how to set up meta description in WordPress and enjoy the ride.
Image alt text
Once you have all previous tips sorted out, you need to have proper image optimization, as well. That means every image on your blog should have an image alt text. It’s a short description of each image that does several things for your SEO. It shows Google what’s the image about and helps you rank better in Image Search. Not to mention it’s making your blog images accessible to the blind and visually impaired.
See, not that big of an issue. But, the fun doesn’t stop there! Once you check out every tip, that’s where the hard work begins – writing quality content and sharing it on Social Media for better impact and quick breakthrough. So, it’s recommended to have accounts on Social Media channels where your targeted audience is. But, that’s something we’ll address in another article, so stay tuned 🙂
