The Johannes theme provides some handy options to create your homepage (front page). You can access the front page settings in Theme Options -> Front Page, and make sure you are looking at your front page on the right when using these settings.
The home page consists of several areas that you can optionally enable/disable and re-order in the General section, then you can manage the appearance of each area separately through its subsection.
Front page areas
- Welcome area – represents a place for your “about” text or your “punchline”.
- Featured articles – represents a place to display a group of your articles that you want to point out, such as most popular articles, or recent articles, or articles in your most important category, etc…
- Latest articles – represents a place to display classic blog post listing of your latest articles
Note: Using the WordPress default front page setup
If you don’t want to use the Johannes front page template, you can simply disable it in the Theme Options -> Front Page -> General section. By disabling this option, the theme will ignore all of the settings and you can then choose to display your “Latest posts” or “A static page”, the two options that you get by default in WordPress under Settings -> Reading.
